The team behind Stockport Exchange are celebrating after picking up yet another award having won the commercial category at this year’s prestigious north west RICS Awards.

Showcasing the most inspirational initiatives and development in land, property, construction and the environment, the annual regional Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Awards ceremony selected Stockport Exchange as the north west’s most commercially successful project of the year.

Developed in partnership with mixed-use development and urban regeneration specialists, Muse Developments, the new business district at Stockport Exchange beat off stiff competition, thanks to its creation of Grade A office space, ‘best in class’ hotel, leisure facilities, retail and onsite car parking, with new public spaces developed.

Described by many as Stockport’s latest ‘wow spot’ Stockport Exchange has been a success from day one. Demand for space within the first office building, One Stockport Exchange, was much higher than it was capable of accommodating and the office was quickly fully let within just six months of completion to both Stagecoach and musicMagpie. Not only that, but the Holiday Inn Express hotel that opened as part of the latest stage of development is exceeding all trading expectations and is frequently fully booked.

Praised by judges at the recent regional awards dinner for its “transformation of a gateway in Stockport” into “an attractive and vibrant new commercial quarter” that successfully “competes with Manchester and has secured market leading rents”.

Pam Smith, Chief Executive at Stockport Council commented: “To win at the north west RICS Awards is a fantastic achievement for Stockport Exchange and a testament to the opportunities that partnership working can create and the benefits it can bring. The success of the new business district has been so great that work on the next stage is already underway.”

Greg Ball, Development Surveyor at Muse Developments said: “We’re delighted that our Stockport Exchange scheme has been presented with a coveted RICS Award. It’s testament to the effort of everyone involved and highlights what can be achieved through private and public sector partnerships.

“The team is working extremely hard to deliver a first-class business district for the town and we’re looking forward to continuing the project’s success with construction of the next phase office building due to start later this year.”

All regional winners will now be in the running for the coveted national Project of the Year Award.
