Stockport has yet another sporting hero in the shape of a young arrowsmith following the 2019 PDC World Darts Championships.
27-year-old Nathan Aspinall shocked the Ally Pally by beating some of the game’s top names on his way to a semi final place – and a £100,000 pay day.
He beat highly-fancied Gerwyn Price – coming from two sets behind – and Brendon Dolan before bowing out to eventual beaten finalist Michael Smith.
But the future is looking very bright on the oche for the former accountant as he starts the 2019 tour after his place in the PDC Order of Merit jumped to 34th in the world.
Stockport has a rich darting pedigree with local legends Tony O’Shea and Daryll Fitton competing in the BDO and Aspinall looks to be continuing the legacy.
