Stockport Business Seek Compensation following Castle Street incident


Businesses in Stockport are hoping to receive compensation for loss of business following the rooftop stand-off between Police and a young man brandishing a knife.

The incident happened on December 28th when most shops on Stockport’s Castle Street were hoping to open for a busy day of post-Christmas trade. The road was closed off as Police, negotiators and fire crews sought to talk the man down.

The 23 year old from Turves Road, Cheadle Hulme was eventually brought down and arrested. He appeared before Stockport Magistrates charged with Affray and possessing a bladed article.

Police have asked owners for estimates for loss of trade. Castle Street is home to almost 100 business and. whilst not all were believed to be opening on the day of the incident the total figure is thought to be in five figures.
