Residents Thwart Gatley Burglar

A Gatley burglar got more than he bargained for when residents foiled his break-in attempt and pinned him down ready for arrest.

Police were called to Beech Avenue, in Gatley  after reports of a burglary where they discovered a group of residents had already searched the area and had detained a man.

A man from Wythenshawe was arrested and appeared before Stockport magistrates charged with attempted burglary and two counts of handling stolen goods. He was remanded in custody after entering no plea.

The incident comes as the worrying trend of burglaries in the area continues to rise.
