Refreshing News For Stockport Potter Fans

Stockport Harry Potter fanatics now have their first themed café.
The Owl’s Nest – brainchild of the people who brought ‘Hoot’ – the only official Harry Potter merchandise store (pictured) – to the town will serve familiar favourites such as butter beer, chocolate frogs and golden snitch macaroons.
Owners of the tiny shop on Great Underbank have taken on the next door unit, which they have turned into a cafe serving treats inspired by Harry Potter, including a Wizard Afternoon Tea.
The cafe – full name the Owl’s Nest Bakery and Bistro – opened last week with a soft launch, and has already received a phenomenal response, says Darren Dalby-Oldham, who runs the space with his partner Keith.
“We make everything fresh, we don’t buy anything in. I sourced all the moulds for the chocolate frogs and make them all myself – including tempering the chocolate – it takes hours,” says Keith, who has trained as a chef.
“It’s a lot more complicated to make a chocolate frog than people think!”
A hand-made chocolate frog will set visitors back £3.95, while the Wizard Afternoon Tea costs £10.50, and includes a selection of sandwiches, macaroons, cakes, a chocolate frog and scones.
Potter fans can also get a taste of butter beer – priced at £4.95 – which is made to their secret recipe.
The cafe and the shop next door operate as a charity, and raise money for Shopmobility Stockport, a service to help anyone with mobility problems get around the borough. Both Keith and Darren – a wheelchair user – are members of the board.
