Man charged after pensioner died in Cheadle Hulme crash

A man has been charged after a pensioner was killed in a fatal car crash in Stockport.

Ian Whitworth, 80, died after being hit by a vehicle in Cheadle Hulme in January.

A man has now been charged with causing death by driving without due care and attention.

Arthur Yate, 69, of Larkswood Drive, Stockport has also been charged with failing to stop after a collision and failing to report a collision.

He has been bailed to appear at Stockport Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 21.

Mr Whitworth was struck by a vehicle near the Ryecroft Arms on Turves Road, Cheadle Hulme at around 10.10pm on Friday, January 13.

Passers-by are said to have rushed to the 80-year-old’s aid as emergency services raced to the scene.

Mr Whitworth was sadly pronounced dead by paramedics.
