Man Arrested For Drug-Driving After Stockport Crash

Police have arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of drug-driving after a Stockport car accident left a woman in a critical condition.

A blue VW Polo had been travelling along Newbridge Lane from the direction of Bredbury before it collided with a blue Vauxhall Corsa at the junction of Carrington Road and New Zealand Road.

The driver of the Corsa, a woman aged 61, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The 20 year old man has been released under investigation while police enquiries are ongoing.

Police Constable Phil Shaw, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A woman has been left fighting for her life following this collision and our thoughts remain with her and her family as she receives treatment in hospital.

“While we have arrested a man in connection with this incident, our investigation is in its early stages and we are appealing to any witnesses to come forward.
