Man Arrested After M60 Afternoon Pile-up

A man has been arrested following a seven car pile-up which brought the M60 to a standstill during the busy afternoon period.

The incident happened close to junction 27 of the motorway just as the rush hour was starting at around 3:45pm on Monday July 17.

The incident caused eight miles of tailbacks along the anticlockwise stretch of road.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene and a number of people were treated for minor injuries. They did not require hospital treatment. Those who were hurt were said to be ‘walking wounded’.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed a 49-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink-driving. He was due to be interviewed by detectives.
