Heald Green Schoolgirls’ Bomb Victim Fundraiser Beats Target

Two schoolgirls from Heald Green who were caught up in the horrific Manchester Arena terror attack have strolled past their fundraising target after taking part in a sponsored walk in aid of the victims.

Scarlett Dean and Megan McDowell – along with 24 of their classmates from Kinsgway School in Gatley , Stockport – will walkedeight miles from Gatley train station to the arena in June.

And they have beaten their £2,000 fundraising target by almost half again with the total standing at just over £2,800 as we went to press.

The pair, both aged 15 from Heald Green , were getting ready to leave the Ariana Grande concert on Monday, May 22 when Salman Abedi detonated a bomb in the foyer , killing 22 people and injuring 120 others.

The walk – dubbed Miles for Manchester – saw the 26 youngsters joined by a number of parents, including Scarlett’s dad Simon.

They raised over £1,000 in the first 24 hours.
