Heald Green Man Who Used Facebook To ‘Groom’ 14 Year Old Girl Is Jailed

A Heald Green man has been jailed for 15 months after using Facebook to ‘groom’ a 14-year-old girl.
Simon Fawcett asked his teenage victim to send inappropriate pictures of herself after contacting her on Facebook in June 2014.
The 45-year-old from Stockport had set up a fake Facebook account three years previously, using a false name and pretending to be 22-years-old.
He sent the teenager a friend request, telling her he thought that she was pretty.
He waited for her at the arranged meeting spot, but she didn’t show up. Police were alerted and Fawcett was arrested and charged with grooming offences.
After pleading guilty at an earlier hearing, Fawcett, of Hilary Avenue, Heald Green, was sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court to 15 months in prison and required to sign the Sex Offender Register for seven years. He was also given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for seven years.
Det Con Christian Julien, of the Phoenix Child Sexual Exploitation team, said: “Firstly, I want to commend the victim for supporting our investigation during what has been an extremely difficult time for her.
“With her help we have been able to ensure Fawcett is behind bars and cannot prey on any more young girls.
“Fawcett tried to persuade a young teenage girl to meet with him by trying to lure her with cigarettes, cannabis and alcohol. I hope this result demonstrates our commitment to getting justice for victims of child sexual exploitation.”
