Futuristic Plans Revealed That Will Bring Modern Metrolink Interchange to Stockport by 2021

Futuristic plans have been revealed that show a new modern transport interchange in Stockport town centre.
The plans will include a long-awaited Metrolink tram terminus with tram lines running beside the iconic viaduct.
A temporary bus station is planned for the current car park on Heaton Lane while work on the interchange is ongoing.
A £39m, 196-home apartment block is also included in the new proposals, as well as public space on the banks of the River Mersey.
Joint Venture
A joint venture between Greater Manchester’s combined authority and Stockport council will develop the block, and rent the apartments for five years.
A planning application could be tabled in August. If that is approved, the interchange could be finished by 2021, and the flats by 2022.
The council has been pushing for the tram network to be extended into the heart of the town for years.
That hasn’t been confirmed, but the town hall and transport bosses are hopeful it will eventually happen.
