One of soap’s original villains will be appearing in Stockport’s latest Pantomime later this year. John Altman, who famously played Eastenders’ Nasty Nick Cotton will be appearing as Captain Hook in Peter Pan at The Plaza.
It’s the second time Altman has appeared at The Plaza and he has been a regular working with producers David Vickers and Richard Chandler – whose Extravaganza company is producing the Pantomime.
While he may be more familiar to most as Albert Square’s wayward son of long-suffering Dot Cotton, Altman revealed that performing in the theatre is something of a family tradition:
“My grandfather was involved in the theatre so it’s in my blood I suppose you could say”
And the actor, who has a nice guy reputation off screen, revealed one of his secrets for getting into character to play baddie Hook:
“I think about traffic wardens, I got a ticket once when I was parked on a yellow line for two minutes when I went to buy a paper on my way to the Eastenders set”.
Other stars include Becky Bennett, who has previously starred in a Plaza panto, as Wendy, Bradley Thompson as Mr Smee, and Jamie Jukes as Peter Pan.
Performances start on Friday December 2nd and run until Sunday, January 8th. Tickets can be booked by calling 0161 477 7779 or by visiting www.stockportplaza.co.uk. Group bookings can be arranged by calling 0843 208 1495
