Stockport Council celebrated the achievements of its young people at the Stockport Young Stars Awards event at the Town Hall in December. Organised by the Council’s 14 – 19 Services, the Stockport Young Stars Awards was attended by more than 330 people and recognised young people who have undertaken education and training with positive experiences.

The event also recognised local employers who are actively involved with the ’14-19 agenda’ by providing education and training opportunities, including Apprenticeships, work experience, mock interviews and school events.

Entertainment was provided by pupils from Cheadle Hulme High School who performed a variety of music and theatre pieces demonstrating the talent of Stockport’s young people. A raffle drawn on the night raised £683 for the Mayor’s charity, Stockport Young Carers.

The winners were as follows:

  • Apprentice of the Year – Michael Valentine, the Cheadle and Marple College Network
  • Contribution to the Community – Callum Abbott, Harrytown Catholic High School
