Cheadle Man’s Bid to Help Homeless

A Cheadle man was so inspired by a page he found on social media to help the homeless that he’s brought the idea to Stockport.

Iain Kelly came across the Facebook page set up by Matthew White from Bristol back in 2013 which encouraged people to collect rucksacks full of useful items to help their town’s homeless community.

Later that year Iain – together with Wellspring, Stockport’s homeless charity – managed to collect 175 rucksacks and the campaign grew from there.

Iain says: “We increased this number to over 1200 rucksacks last year. This year we aim to get the message out further, include our local schools and hopefully help more of those in need.

“It’s the most fulfilling and enjoyable thing I have ever done – seeing all walks of life come together to help our own. It shows community spirit at its best.”
