With ballot papers now arriving from today and the local EU referendum in the Cheadle and Hazel Grove constituencies coming to a crescendo, the People’s Pledge team will be out in the constituencies over the next 14 days reminding people to vote.
Tens of thousands of constituents of local Liberal Democrat MPs Mark Hunter and Andrew Stunell are set to be asked whether they agree or disagree with the statement “There should be a national referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union.”
The team has hired an open top bus on the 2nd August for the day, decked out with People’s Pledge banners, to get supporters around the constituency when they are knocking on doors.
Polls will close at 5pm on Thursday 9 August 2012 and all votes, whether submitted by post, online, text or freephone, must be recieved by then.
Nearly 9,000 people in the Cheadle and Stockport area have already signed up to the People’s Pledge and many more are expected to send back ballot papers. The national support for the People’s Pledge now stands at over 121,000.
Marc-Henri Glendening, Political Director of The People’s Pledge, said:
“Everyone in the area will know this vote is happening by now, the response to our campaign has been fantastic. Over the last month people have really come to understand what our campaign is about, which is why we have seen thousands register to vote this week, and over 10,000 electors sign The People’s Pledge. There are a few days left but people must remember to vote in plenty of time for their ballot to arrive by 9th August.”
