Police have warned the Asian community to take extra precautions following a spate of robberies on homes in search of gold.
Homes in the Heald Green and Gatley areas were broken into and it is believed they were targeted for having gold and jewellery.
The incident in Gatley occurred at a house on Kingsway while the occupants were still at home. A masked gang of three men burst into the property and demanded gold jewellery that they were wearing.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the raid, which happened at 7.50pm, and say the gang was three white males wearing black balaclavas. One was 5ft 7in, the other two 6ft.
In another break-in at Neal Avenue in Heald Green, thieves stole £30,000 of sentimental jewellery while the house was unoccupied.
It is believed that these burglaries are being carried out in the knowledge that Asian families are collecting items of gold jewellery for the wedding season. Polce are advising that, where possible, large quantities of valuable items of jewellery not be kept at residential properties but deposited at safe storage facilities.
