Armed Robbery Terror At Cheadle Betting Shop


An axe was used in a terrifying evening raid on a Cheadle Bookmakers.
Two robbers targeted the William Hill betting shop on Councillor Lane and, while one held the door open the other used an axe to try and break the glass to get access to the till.
The terrified employee tried to escape, but was caught and threatened by the robber who demanded cash.
Several hundred pounds was stolen, and the suspects fled on foot.
A Police spokesman said: “We were called at 7.15pm to William Hill on Councillor Lane in Cheadle to reports of a robbery.
“Unknown offenders have approached the betting shop, one held the door open while the other, carrying an axe, went up to the member of staff behind the till.
“He used the axe to try and smash the glass, and the employee tried to flee, the suspect then threatened them, demanding cash from the till.
“Both men then fled the scene.”
