69-year-old Man Arrested After Alleged Hit And Run In Cheadle Hulme


A 69-year-old motorist was arrested following the death of an 80-year old man outside a Cheadle Hulme pub.
Ian Whitworth, 80, died after being struck by a car close to the Ryecroft Arms on Turves Road in Cheadle Hulme.
Emergency services raced to the scene of the incident shortly after 10pm but were unable to save Mr Whitworth who lived nearby, and he was later declared dead by paramedics.
The car did not stop at the scene and detectives launched an appeal to help trace the driver.
A 69-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an collision. He remains in custody for questioning.
